On Friday, December 15th I presented “An Author’s Journey” to Mrs. Clark’s 3rd grade class at the Deer Hill School. The students were awesome! We learned a little bit about football like how to do a coin toss and how to signal first down, second down, third down, and fourth down. We also talked about 8 tips for young writers. The most important were 1) to read and write every day and 2) to never give up! Thank you very much for inviting me to your classroom!
On Tuesday, January 23rd I returned to the Deer Hill School to work with Mr. Lewis’ and Mrs. Johnston’s 5th grade classes. We talked about revising and editing. Remember: when your editor or teacher tells you to do something to make your story (or your upcoming fairy tale assignment) better you…do it! Also, writing is a team sport. Read your story to a friend, or ask your friend to read your work. It will help you catch little, annoying mistakes. Thank you for inviting me to your classroom, and good luck with your writing!
Many thanks to excellent 5th grade classes at East Elementary School in Hingham, MA who hosted me for “drop everything and read,” on Thursday, April 12th. You are talented and polite and kind, and I sincerely enjoyed my visit. Let’s go, Hingham!
On Thursday, May 17th I will give an author talk at the Scituate Town Library.
